Clay fun

So many things to send out into the internet.  I know it's just ones and zeros in the vast web but I hope to turn this into more of a journal.

New job! Starting next month and the new job jitters have hit, and excitement as well.

Also I have the pics of my silly ceramic week at FHS.
As you can tell I love my house more.  Sadly I no longer work for that district but the teacher in the next room promised to fire my beauties and I left color choices with a trusted student.  Don't you love the fireplace inside too?  Hope it doesn't bust in the kiln.

More to come,

Fun with clay

My day job is Substitute teacher, with hope to be hired full time. This has given me an opportunity to spend a lot of time in a ceramic studio as a teacher was ill.  I was given permission to play. My experience on the wheel was a wreck. But hand building is like riding a bike.

What I do when not making stuff.

Closing night for Oliver! I started a Disney soundcheck day.  We prepared for a few days and more than I thought actually went through with it.
I went for Rapunzel.... cause it makes me cry.

Self Portrait.... Kinda

They say to write, do, make what you know.  Well I know stories, fables, creatures that glisten and frighten. I also know myself.
For the first time I present something personal.

That would be me, and my dad.  It was the 80's and my hair was adorable.  This is from a photo my mom took of us.
One of my brother and dad is coming next.

Girl interrupted

Almost ready. It just needs something. I'll leave her be until I know what else. I'm sure there will be more hair going every which way. But will there be more stars? Will there be flashes of sparks coming from her lantern? One thing is certain... I love that scarf.

Light the way

So I was sketching in church... Ok I'm always sketching at church.  And I was obsessed with the idea of creating a girl holding a light source.  This became a winter scene with a flowing scarf and a lantern.  I blew it up and I fell in love with the face (It has a Disney feel to it, right?).  I redrew it several times on a dark skin color because I felt she could be a dark complexion.  In the end I went with a mid tone so I could light box this sketch onto the final paper.

Progress shot of the face placed over the sketch.  Wait until you see the scarf.  Almost went blind with the stripes. (And the scarf got longer than original sketch.)

Today I tried chalk drawing, on pavement. Pleasanton had their first chalk festival. Let's just say I was not prepared. I picked a detailed composition and had a small area. Disaster!
I felt useless and just wanted paper and scissors.
I have discovered my security blanket.
I should work on my current commission and the chalk helped me desire it.

Went to the happiest place on earth. Don't recommend during spring break. Fortunately my bestie and I love the single rider line. This ride however took over an hour to get through the line. Glad we brought books, seriously books. So enjoy the pictures. I love my new photo app, snapseed. Take that instagram.

So I am supposed to deliver art to a friends new store in Oakland.  Although, I hate it, so I am revamping it.  It is interesting how my look changes in four years.

New Joseph: Background in progress.

Wendy girl

Final version of Wendy... NO sad phone camera shots, no matter what instagram can do it still cuts off too much.  I think outside the square thank you very much.

This loverly girl (Yes, loverly.) has just made it into a juried art show.  (My mermaid didn't and I will try not to dwell on it.)  So excited to show how my art has grown.  My "family" tree was in the same show 3 or 4 years ago.
So here is Wendy, with colors truer than the previous post.... That I might delete.
What is your favorite fairy tale? Working on mine, although it's more like a myth, and hope to have that soon.

Keep making life beautiful,

Pixie dust

This one is definitely trying its luck at the local art show. And begging for a pro shot to keep on my computer.

I was just going to pick colors. Wall, fabric, bed posts, and sky colors that coordinate and work with the look I planned was all I was going to do.
Then my hands took over. Does this happen to you?
I forced myself to leave the table before I designed her quilt pattern. (Although the colors have been chosen.)

new project, art show

So I know I am practically talking to myself, so this is a great opportunity to vent and plan and hopefully create.

I have a new assignment at work, which was supposedly ending next Friday, and now no one knows when the permanent employee is returning.  This was fine because then I could take a day off or take a half day assignment to focus on next weeks art show in town.  I am super excited about the project I want to bring in as well as my mermaid.  This is a juried show so I am not guaranteed a spot.  But the sketch is done and I have great hopes for this one.
I finished another Cinderella and I still think it is lacking.  It isn't a hot mess so at least that is an improvement.
This means I'm hoping Wendy isn't hiding the pixie dust from me when I create her escape in paper.

What girl do you know who flies?

Got a new sketch book. No more printer paper that is too small. And to celebrate I went to my pinterest board o' ideas for my next project.

Finished with Cinderella. Which means I have paper scraps everywhere, paint on my fingers and glitter on the floor. Ahh success! Just needs a signature. Will post the professional shot later. Until then... Falderal and fiddle dee dee...

No pictures today.  Working on a new Cinderella.  Asked mom for opinion.  Since she makes beautiful figurines I listen when she says the legs aren't long enough.  Anything is better than the hot mess of my Cinderella that exists now.
